Description
This medium porcelain bowl has a sky blue exterior with white haloed spots on the enterior, and softer blue with soft whit spots on the interior. The white spots have strong outlines and some with interesting halos. Each piece created in this process is unrepeatable. This bowl has been wheel thrown.
Often my work is driven by the materials and processes. Working with soluble metallic salts has been an ongoing investigation in my arts practice. Due to their unpredictable behavior, they are not commonly used in studio ceramics. Dissolved metallic salts are applied to the porous surface creating unique patterns on both surfaces. My concern is about the relationship between these surfaces, evidenced through the migration of colour and pattern. Applied acids and resists create crisp and diffuse patterns, defined by moisture and saturation.
