Description
This series of vessels are the wheel thrown porcelain. The green tree ants of tropical Australia are very social creatures, very engaging to watch as they cooperate working on nest building and food collecting. These pieces attempt to capture their character and antics. Extending on my previous work with scanned skeleton leaf images applied as laser print decals, I am exploring the use of overglaze in this work. Requiring a third, lower firing, the colour choice is far more extensive than is possible with glazes. Employing glazed and unglazed, polished surfaces, image designs are composed directly onto the surface so each piece tells a unique story. The larger than life size ants bring a sense of fun to this body of work.
This bowl can be used for food but handwashing is recommended.
