This series is all about texture. These vessels explore the use crater slips and glazes to create deep texture in the glaze surface. A reactive ingredient is used which liberates gas during firing causing the surface to bubble and foam. The surface can be solidified at different stages of the melting process causing bubbles or craters after the gas has expired. I am exploring the reinvention of some of my previous glazes to create flowing lava like surfaces.
This vase can be used for flowers. The interior is gloss glazed for easy cleaning. The surfaces an be delicate, so extra care needs to be taken.
