Description
This open porcelain bowl is wheel thrown in Limoges porcelain. It has a spot and squiggle pattern all in shades of blue and an inky blue exterior. Each side of the bowl has a different character. Each piece created in this process is unrepeatable. This bowl has been wheel thrown.
Often my work is driven by the materials and processes. Working with soluble metallic salts has been an ongoing investigation in my arts practice. Due to their unpredictable behavior, they are not commonly used in studio ceramics. Dissolved metallic salts are applied to the porous surface creating unique patterns on both surfaces. My concern is about the relationship between these surfaces, evidenced through the migration of colour and pattern. Applied acids and resists create crisp and diffuse patterns, defined by moisture and saturation.
