Artist Statement: “My artwork merges ceramics and cyanotype photography through extensive research and experimentation. Using ferns gathered by my mother, I have exposed images, with light and time, directly onto porcelain. This work gathers memory, material, and meaning, honouring her quiet research and my own impulse to preserve, transform, and reimagine legacy.”
This unique piece has cyanotype photograms developed directly onto the porcelain making each unique. Although the image penetrates the substrate, it’s still fragile. The porcelain is high fired before application of the cyanotype.
The rust coloured images are fired onto the surface, but the blue cyanotype images aren’t fired and are more fragile. The surfaces are sealed with a sprayed non ceramic sealer but may still be vulnerable to rubbing or scratching and other chemicals.
Each ceramic artwork is float mounted and framed in a white timber frame, ready for hanging. It hangs landscape format but could easily be converted to portrait format. The look good displayed in threes.
TO CLEAN Wipe over gently with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or immerse in water.
