Description
This beautiful ovalled form has an abstract diagonal wavy pattern in several interacting metallic salts. This piece has been fired in reduction bring out the metallic qualities of the copper and showing pink patches on the inside from copper reduction. It’s totally glazed on the inside so can be used for food, flowers or containing things. Each piece created in this process is unique and unrepeatable.
Often my work is driven by the materials and processes. Working with soluble metallic salts has been an ongoing investigation in my arts practice. Due to their unpredictable behavior, they are not commonly used in studio ceramics. Dissolved metallic salts are applied to the porous surface creating unique patterns on both surfaces. My concern is about the relationship between these surfaces, evidenced through the migration of colour and pattern. Applied acids and resists create crisp and diffuse patterns, defined by moisture and saturation.
